Race Recap 2025

Another BIG Year for the Collegiate Peaks Trail Run (“CPTR) on May 3, in its 34th year, with the new partner event – the Collegiate Peaks Mountain Bike Ride (“CPMtbR” - ?)*  now Year 2 on May 4 !!!!

Running festivities started off Friday afternoon with a great vibe beginning to build as runners, with friends & family in tow, began arriving at the BV Community Center / “Race Central” for packet pickup and Pre-Race Meeting. The vibe and excitement apparent in everyone continued up to, and through, both Distance Start Waves (6:30 / 6:45) Saturday morning – each marked by our “signature” canon blasts setting runners off in initial chase of Race Start / Lead Car amidst some high energy music and lots of cheers, whoops, and hollers from friends, family, curious local spectators, and race volunteers !

 Some 2025 “factoids” –

  •  Entrants hailed from 22 of our U.S. states as well as the District of Columbia and Quebec, Canada

  • Registrations reached our permitted maximum of 325 – with 274 trail harriers stepping up to the start lines and a final Finishers’ count of 260 !!

  • 69% were First Timers to the CPTR

  • 20% were running their race day distance for the first time competitively !!!

 In addition to ‘normal & customary” challenges that come with running “high, dry, and dusty”, a new actor made a prevalent impression on at least a few of you – with a few “Cacti Encounters” reported by at least a few runners and volunteers……  

 While “sandwiched” with big Colorado snowmaker systems the week before and the week after,  Race Weekend weather proved very accommodating again – with Saturday start-line temps in the low 30’s quickly warming  to upper 60s and low 70s by afternoon.  Skies remained blue, mostly cloud-free and winds mostly behaved…..

 In the 25M Race:

A “Boulder Sweep”, overall winners Jenna Bensko (F28) of Boulder, CO in 3:27:0,  Amanda Basham (F35), of Boulder, CO in 3:27:46 and Joel Shores (M26), of Boulder, CO in 3:30:26. 

 In the 50M Race:

Overall winners were Daniel Metzger (M31) of Colorado Springs, CO in 6:57:40, Logan Hjelmstad (M30) of Alamosa, CO in 8:39:50, and Jean-Marie Laigle (F45) of Golden, CO in 8:46:11.  Daniel’s performance set a new current-course record by a margin of approximately 10 minutes !
