Ran course this past Saturday.  For those of you familiar with the course - snow, snow-pack, ice, and mud on section of course "in the back" and leading up/over/down Lenhardy Hill.  If running course in clockwise fashion, this would be approximately sections along miles 8 through 12 and 14 through 20.  Worst of it, as is usually the case is on top of Lenhardy.  All runnable - just not "record-setting" conditions.

Saturday 12 Noon - 2/11/2012

Course and adjacent road and trails are in great shape!  So, if looking for training venue options,  come on ahead!!

Monday Evening, 1/02/2012

Ran course yesterday (including, for you longtime CPTRer's, some extra mileage via the Seven Mile Creek loop that was part of the original course - send an email if you remember this section !).  Course is in good shape - very runnable.  There are some extended very slippery sections - particularly on the North/East side and top of Lenhardy Hill.  Running the slick sections "up" is o.k..  However, running the slick spots on "downs" may be problematic for many.  If planning on running the course counter-clockwise (which I recommend for a nice change of pace - and for those entering the 50miler), you may want traction control for heading down Lenhardy - but wouldn't need it for majority of the course - so would probably need to be prepared to carry your equipment (yak trax, etc....).

Course is in great condition!  With nothing forecast, upcoming weekend conditions should remain premo!!!

Wednesday 12/7/2011

Check course on Sunday.  Snow covered - but runnable (just don't expect your normal training pace) - but great workout (and views!) nonetheless.  Warmer day today and forecast for upcoming days - should be in good shape for upcoming weekend.

Tuesday 11/29/2011

See 11/21 entry.  Nothing changed - just a head's up to check NOAA as this coming weekend approaches;  right now, slight chance of some kind of precipitation - but, in the mountains, one never knows..........

Monday 11/21/2011

Inspected the full course yesterday.  And, just to make sure I didn't miss a thing - and to give a complete/accurate report to any of you who might be interested - I went quite slowly.  Bottom line, course is as suspected, in just about perfect shape for training runs.  The only slick/snowy sections are on the upper, northern, sections of Lenhardy Hill.

Tuesday 11/15/2011

Course is runnable.  Expect to have more detailed information come this weekend when I can personally get out on the course.  For the weekend, NOAA is forecasting some chance of some bit of percipitation - with high's in town in the mid-40s.  If you come, just carry an extra layer or jacket.  Weather conditions on the course can change rapidly - particularly if you're going up and / or over Lenhardy Hill.

While I haven't been on the course since last weekend, course is reportedly a mix of snow, mud, ice, and normal/dry sections.  If you're thinking of coming from out of town for a training weekend, I'd say "come ahead" - as long as you do so with flexability in mine.  While you might not be able to run the exact or entire course, we've got plenty of runnable clear routes in, around, and outside of town - so you can certainly get good training in at 8K+ feet.

Monday 10/31/2011

Snow on the mountain trails on the Western side of our valley is prompting us locals to make the seasonal move to running routes on the valley floor and on the Eastern side of our valley - including the CPTR course!  Despite the snow higher up, we are continuing to enjoy a wonderful Indian Summer.  As of yesterday and Saturday, the course is in perfect running condition.  For those of you with canine pacers, there's generally ample water along most of the course - with streams still not completely frozen and snow along (but not on) the course route.

Stayed tuned for updates - or feel free to email any specific questions.
